How I Earned My First $1

I know you heard this title before repeatedly! However, I am going share something with YOU that everyone is talking about on the internet. I am not going to waste your time. So, lets get right to it! I know I am late getting into this photo business (hobby or gig) but you can earn up to $400 or more a week taking pictures of people which I did by accident. I made made my first $1 plus $399 in one day.

See, I am a self-taught photographer and I never charged for taking pictures.  I would have my camera, inkjet printer, and a laptop.   Now, if you don’t have a passion for taking pictures, working with a camera, using a computer, this may not be for you. This business is for adults, young adults, or anyone who is willing to be creative on the weekends. The amount of money you can earn is unlimited. Whatever you put into this job, this gig, or hobby, is what you will get out of it!  You must work hard, be willing to read, and become a quick listener!

I am going to show you all the things you need, the things you need to read, and the things you need to know inside out.

The Photography Equipment

Number 1, you will need a digital camera or a point and shoot camera. It should be at least 5 mega-pixel or more. You need a computer, card reader, and a printer (inkjet or dye-sub). When I started this business I had a digital point and shoot and a inkjet printer as I stated before. Now, that I have the budget, I bought a digital camera and a commercial dye-sub. I needed something more advanced than the inkjet printers. However, if you are just starting out and photography is not your cup of tea, then you need to start out small.  It doesn’t make any sense to dish out tons of money for something you will not love or enjoy.  You have to make sure this is something you want to do in your spare time and  for free.  The money doesn’t come right away but it’s on its way to you.  Are you listening?  Keep read, there is more.

Read, Watch, and Learn

Number 2…You must read all the manuals for each device I just mentioned above. You have to know what setup works and what doesn’t. In photography, shooting a camera maybe easy but knowing the correct exposure could be hard. I never knew that lighting played a serious part in photography.  Shooting indoors allow me to control my lights. When I started taking pictures outdoor in the daytime, OH LAWD (lord), everything was either overexposed or washed out. Then, I tried taking pictures at night outdoors, but all my images were too dark and underexposed (WTH??). I thought my camera just wasn’t working. I had to learn about my camera inside out quickly and how to properly set the exposure. I did not become an overnight professional photographer.  I learned the settings and  some of  the features about my camera one day at a time.  I was hungry, passionate, and willing to read and breathe everything about photography.   Trust me, read everything before starting anything.  You would need to watch and learn from videos of other photographer enthausiast on youtube. Before you know it, you will be up in the wee-hours-in the morning crying for some sleep!  The videos are contagious and full of information.  Here are some good ones click here to start you off.

Practice makes it perfect, well, sometimes…

Finally, number 3, you must know who and where to shoot! I started out practicing with family members and friends in my home town. Most of my friends loved the pictures and they were speechless when I presented the photos to them in seconds.  I enjoyed attending basketball games, birthday parties, and summer carnivals.  But there are times when things could go wrong.  This is why I love digital cameras and told you to read everything!  You can take as many pictures you want before printing it.  The customer could view the image and decide to buy it or skip it.  But when the images are blurry and the printer doesn’t work, you should have a backup plan.  I remember one woman screamed and said to me, “No Jackie, I do not like this picture!”  So, I told her; “no problem, you don’t have to buy it. If you don’t like the picture, just bring another face and we will do a better job!”   Yes, she laughed and we took another picture and she loved it!  Bringing such confidence to this type of business only comes from practicing and knowing your stuff.   Again, its what you bring to this job, is what you will get out of it.  How to expose an image, how to edit an image, or how to print an image is very important. There are tons of Photography 101 courses online and many of them are free. What I will suggest you do is join several photography forums.  Once you join, you can upload your images, ask questions, and get some positive and constructive answers.  My main forum that I visit at least 3 times a day wis {Photography On The Net) click here.  I post everything on there; the before and after shots.  I needed help and I got it.  Now, I am doing what I love and earning some cash at the same time.  So, stop reading this and go ahead and read, practice, and make some money using your camera.
